Osteopaths
Select areaDownload Osteopaths List with Qualifications and Specialisms (pdf) All of the details contained on this page have been provided by osteopaths themselves, who are happy to be contacted by sportspeople who require their services. Many of them offer discounts to members of the Kent FANS Scheme for National level performers. Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. It works with the structure and function of the body, and is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly together. To an osteopath, for the body to work well, its structure must also work well. So osteopaths work to restore the body to a state of balance, where possible without the use of drugs or surgery. Osteopaths use touch, physical manipulation, stretching and massage to increase the mobility of joints, to relieve muscle tension, to enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissues, and to help the body’s own healing mechanisms. Patients seek treatment for a wide variety of conditions, including back pain, repetitive strain injury, changes to posture in pregnancy, postural problems caused by driving or work strain, the pain of arthritis and sports injuries. The list is not exhaustive but has been compiled based on professionals who are listed on the Statutory Register of Osteopaths held by the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC). Kent Sport would be pleased to receive details of any osteopaths, based in the County, who would also wish to be included. The Kent Sports Leisure & Olympics Service cannot be held responsible for the level of fees charged or the quality of service provided by any individual or organisation listed and is not in a position to endorse any particular osteopath. Advice on osteopathy and on different forms of sports injury treatment, such as physiotherapy, sports massage therapy or acupuncture, is often available through your GP.
