Gemma Collins - British Female Elite Mountain Bike Racer

Gemma CollinsGemma began her early sporting career involved in athletics and kick boxing. In 2002, a fractured meta-tarsal led to a change of sport as she decided to take up mountain biking.

Her first mountain-bike race was a National Points Sport race at Catton Park Hall – in muddy conditions, requiring a lot of running. Gemma won this by nearly 20 minutes and has been hooked on mountain-bike racing ever since.

In 2006 she entered into Elite level racing with consistent top 10 finishes. In 2007 she achieved a top 5 British ranking (women) and participated in her first World Cup. In 2008 she progressed to 3rd placed British woman in National Points Races.

Gemma has recently decided to reduce her working hours to focus on her cycling career. Her future aim is to wear the GB kit and ride with pride!

Her commitment to the sport extends beyond the bike, she is an ambassador for Sustrans and supports their ‘Bike it’ and ‘Beauty and the Bike’ schemes which promote cycling to young people.
