Graham and Julie Williams - Triathlon
FANS members travel to Kenya to teach Swimming and water awareness to under privileged children.
Graham and Julie have been members of the Kent FANS scheme for over six years. In addition to being a GB age group Triathlon team member, Graham is a British Triathlon coach and also an ASA Swimming teacher. Julie is a current member of the GB age group team and was also Bronze medallist at the 2008 European Triathlon Championships.
Graham had read that the accident rate was high in Kenya around the coast because there were very few Swimming instructors and even less public Swimming pools, especially in the poorest areas of Kenya. They decided that they would both like to give something back to the sport and use their knowledge to help others, so they chose to travel to Mombasa in Kenya to teach Swimming and water awareness to children at a local primary school.

Max Moss – Skier
Max is a member of the British Children’s Ski Team and Team Evolution. He has won numerous national Skiing championships and his most recent success was at the Anglo Scottish Championships in Les Houches, France.
Commercial Program Director for Team Evolution, Yannick Green, said “Max has managed to show incredible amounts of tenacity and professionalism in his approach to alpine racing. He out performed all of his competitors by finishing on the podium at the Anglo Scottish championships in Les Houches, France. He is already showing a lot of potential for the future, this year being his last year of the children’s category. Max will be making a huge leap into the junior men’s category next winter.“
“Max has what it takes to compete in next year's Junior men’s category as he has been training hard and forerun in some junior men’s races this year, putting in respectable times. He is not the most physical of skiers but this will come as he develops over the years and in the gym with his strength and conditioning programme. Furthermore, Skiing intelligently is another ball game; Max understands the terrain and patterns of the course which makes him a cut above the rest, as most rely on their natural strength for their age. Skiing with intellect at this age really is a gift and bodes well for the future when the courses get harder and the races get faster.“

Ken Treadwell - Triathlon
Ken is a member of 7Oaks Tri Club and along with other members of the club achieved great success at the National Triathlon Sprint Championships held at Milton Keynes.
In the Men's 65-69 age group, Ken won beating the next athlete by 15 seconds. Ken explained: "I came out of the water at the same time as the other competitor who eventually came second. He passed me on the bike and had built up a lead of just over a minute by the start of the run, but I put my head down and ran hard. With about 500 metres to go, I realised that I could catch him and with about 300 metres to go I passed him. It was a great race, but I was more tired after this than other sprint races I have done.
Further to Ken's recent success at the National Sprint Championships, he has also competed as a member of the GB Team in the European Triathlon Olympic Distance Championship in Athlone, Ireland (Olympic distance of 1500m swim; 40k bike; 10k run). On a wet and gale-force windy day, Ken managed to come second in his age group and was really pleased with his silver medal.
To cap it all, Ken also competed in the British Triathlon Olympic Distance Triathlon Championship, held at Bedford, and managed to win his event; so he is now the current British Champion, in the 60-65 age group, for both the Sprint and Olympic Distance events – something he had only ever dreamed about achieving.
