The Aim of the Games

The Kent School Games aims to embed competitive sport into schools and get as many young people as possible in schools fully engaged in physical activity.

Partnership Working

The Games are being led jointly by KCC Communities Directorate and Children, Families and Education Directorate. They are being developed through a partnership involving School Sport Partnerships, Specialist Sports Colleges and governing bodies of sport; all managed by KCC Sport, Leisure and Olympics Service and Advisory Service Kent.

Kent School Games are also very proud to be associated with P&O Ferries and are very grateful for their support.

The Scale and Scope of the Games

  • 25,000 – 30,000 participants in the heats, area competitions and finals.
  • 400 separate competitions .
  • 14 different sports and a further 9 disability sports.
  • Target of 350 to 400 schools to be involved.
  • Involving boys and girls at primary, secondary school and special schools, from years 3 to 11
  • All participants to receive certificates.
  • Each participating school to receive a special commemorative certificate.
  • Area heats and competitions are being held until June 2008 in each of Kent’s 13 School Sport Partnerships.
  • Finals will be held in June and July 2008 , involving 5,000 children over nine days at 15 facilities at eight venues; resulting in 1,200 medallists.
