School Sport
About Us...
Kent County Council's Sport Leisure and Olympics service aims to develop school sport and physical activity in schools across the whole of Kent. This is achieved by working closely with both school and community sport providers to ensure that all young people in the county have opportunities within in sport and physical activity.
Kent County Council's commitment to school sport can be seen in the role of the Kent School Sport Manager, which is the only such role in existence in the UK and was created as far back as 2003.
The purpose of the role is to work with school and community sport to provide young people with the opportunity to progress from school to community sport in a seamless way. It also provides advice and guidance to young people about various aspects of sport and physical activity, including volunteering as well as providing information and guidance for those working with young people in sport in Kent.
In the run up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games the service wants to ensure that all of the people of Kent, particularly Kent's young people derive benefit from the London Games. This has seen the launch of such highly successful programmes as the Kent School Games and Pass the Passion.
With less than two years to go until London 2012 there has never been a more exciting time to be working in School Sport than now.
