School Sport
About Us...
Kent County Council's Sport Leisure and Olympics service supports the development of school sport and physical activity in schools across the whole of Kent. This is achieved by working closely with both school and community sport providers to ensure that all young people in the county have opportunities within in sport and physical activity.
Kent County Council's commitment to school sport can be seen in the role of the Kent School Sport Manager, which is the only such role in existence in the UK and was created as far back as 2003.
The purpose of the role is to help develop sport in schools by:
- Enhancing the links between school sport and community sport, in order to co-ordinate and make the best use of resources across the county.
- Help schools and organisations develop a wide range of sports opportunities to enable young people to progress through school sport and into the wider sporting community.
In the run up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games the service wants to ensure that all of the people of Kent, particularly Kent's young people derive benefit from the London Games. This has seen the launch of such highly successful programmes as the Kent School Games and Pass the Passion.
