What is the Kent School Games?

The Kent School Games is a biennial event and since being launched in 2008 has grown from strength to strength.

The aim of the Kent School Games is to:

  • give young people aged 4 to 16 the chance to compete in their own countywide competition
  • to encourage an enthusiasm for sport, achievement and exercise
  • to create memories for the young athletes taking part

The event has become the largest school sports competition in Europe and is being used as a model for the government’s National School Games initiative.

What is the School Games?

The School Games is a unique opportunity to motivate and inspire millions of young people across the country to take part in more competitive school sport.

The Games are made up of four levels of activity:

  • Level 1 – sporting competition for all students in school through intra-school competition
  • Level 2 – individuals and teams are selected to represent their schools in local inter-school competitions
  • Level 3 – the county/area will stage multi-sport School Games festivals as a culmination of year-round school sport competition
  • Level 4 – the School Games finals: a national multi-sport event where the most talented young people in the UK will be selected to compete in our sporting venues.

The Games are designed to build on the magic of the 2012 Olympics to enable every school and child to participate in competitive sport, including meaningful opportunities for disabled youngsters.

At a local level, the School Games will be delivered by schools, clubs, the county sports partnership and other local partners.
