Sports Makers' News

Kent Sport is delighted to nominate Aurelie Charles as our nominee for Sport Maker of the Year 2012.  Her application will now be judged by an expert panel who will chose a winner from each region.  From the nine chosen, the top three will be judged by a VIP panel in London and will then attend an awards ceremony where they will be presented with pairs of London 2012 Olympic tickets.   Aurelie also picks up our Sport Maker of the Month for March 2012 and as such will be presented with a certificate, a voucher to spend on sports equipment/clothing, a sports bag and a free place on a Sports Coach UK workshop or First Aid course.   Aurelie, who plays for Remnants Hockey Club in the Kent League, has been running indoor sessions at the Thomas Aveling School in Rochester.  Inviting a variety of individuals along she set out with a target of increasing female adult participation.  In recent weeks though she has invited other local clubs down which has also seen male players join in.   England Hockey have supported the sessions through Joanna Irving, Relationship Manager, who was initially contacted by Aurelie via the Sport Makers website.  Sessions have focused around Rush Hockey, a fast, furious and fun game that is very informal and caters for all abilities.  Aurelie is now looking at developing some Back To Hockey sessions as well as taking part in The npower Big Dribble which is coming to Kent on 27 and 28 April.  She is also set to volunteer at the London 2012 Games as a Games Maker.   Kent Sport will continue to award Sport Maker of the Month awards as we look to recruit, train and deploy Sport Makers across the County over the next 12 months.
