Deadline 2 July
Kent Sport is seeking applications for funding from not for profit and statutory organisations to deliver sporting activities to young people in Kent (excluding London Boroughs).
The purpose of Sport Unlimited (SU) is to support the Government’s ‘5 hour offer’ by increasing opportunities for young people aged 11 to 19 years to take part in regular sport and activity outside of the school day.
The aim of the programme is to target ‘semi-sporty’ young people - those that may be doing some PE and sport in school but aren’t yet members of a sports club or taking part in activity in a community setting.
The main three objectives for SU activities are to:
- provide activities that young people have expressed an interest in
- ensure that participants attend regularly (at least 6 sessions)
- have clear exit routes in place so that participants are able to continue taking part after the SU sessions have come to an end.
What must each project deliver?
- A SU project is a block of 8-10, weekly, hour long sports sessions targeting 11-19 year olds
- Projects should show that young people have been involved and consulted
- Projects should primarily, but not exclusively, target ‘semi-sporty’ young people.
- Projects must establish new activities, build on and extend current provision or enhance existing good quality provision, thereby creating additional provision.
- Projects must focus on motivating each participant to attend regularly and take part in at least 60% of sessions run.
What will be funded?
There are a wide range of sports and activities that are eligible for funding (see Guidance Notes)
SU funding can be used to cover the costs of the activity such as coaching fees and travel expenses, facility hire, equipment and training. A full list of eligible and ineligible project costs are outlined in the Guidance Notes.
Value for money will be one of the criteria against which applications are assessed. Applicants should give careful consideration to hourly coaching rates and proportional expenditure on items such as marketing, equipment and travel.
How to apply
To apply for SU funding you will need to:
- Read the Guidance Notes thoroughly
- Discuss your project(s) with Andrea Murphy, 01622 605064 or andrea.murphy@kent.gov.uk, prior to submission
- Complete an Application Form and Sport Unlimited Delivery Plan Template.
As highlighted in the Guidance Notes, funding is being allocated via District and Governing Body plans. However, if you are club or other organisation and have an eligible project, this may still be funded. Please contact Andrea Murphy to discuss accessing funding.
Closing date for all applications is 2 July 2010.
Please note that if your application is successful your organisation will be required to read and sign a standard funding agreement to confirm that you understand and agree to the conditions of award and complete a Child Protection Checklist prior to funding being released.
