Overview

Town Malling Cricket Club are a friendly club where all teams play in the spirit of cricket, founded in 1827 at the heart of West Malling in Kent. They welcome players of any age, gender or ability. We asked them to share their experience of obtaining Covid-19 emergency, and the process involved, with others.

Eligibility

The club were offered a grant in response to the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak following the government announcement that there would be support for small businesses based on their rateable value.

What to Apply For?

“We found out about the new grant through the national press. We then went onto our local authority website to find out more. Unlike others we didn’t receive a letter about the grant, so we approached the council ourselves. We found out what the rateable value of our ground was and applied for a fixed sum based on this value. Organisations with a property rateable value of £15,000 or below are eligible for a cash grant of £10,000 whilst a property rateable value over £15,000 and less than £51,000 is eligible for a grant of £25,000.”

The Process

“The application process was ever so simple to use. We submitted our application and we found out we were successful very quickly.”

Impact

“The funding will ensure the survival of the club. It will cover our losses from match fees and bar takings and will help maintain the grounds until we can re-open again.”
